‘What’s On’ and ‘The Famous Grouse’ contribute to the Euro 2012 celebrations

Dolobetskiy island (Hydropark), Kyiv. Saturday the 16th of June. Saturday evening saw Ukrainian enterprise make a contribution to the Euro 2012 celebrations with The Famous What’s On Wet and Wild beach party.

Over 2000 revelers including many Swedish and English football fans danced long into the night at a party to remember. The event was organized by Ukraine’s only English language social magazine What’s On in conjunction with Scotland’s favorite whisky The Famous Grouse and was designed to demonstrate to visiting guests just how Ukrainians party and party they did…

Ksenya Karpenko a leading journalist from Korrespondent magazine said: “The atmosphere was simply great. It was nothing like the pretentious atmosphere Ukr-clubbers are used to, instead it was fun and wild and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. The bands made the audience rock, and the great deal on the whisky cocktails enabled clubbers to dance till the sunrise. Ukrainians really took the opportunity to show the Europeans present what it means "to party Ukr style".

The guests were treated to the cream of Ukrainian rock with musical contributions from Lissa Wassabi, Gorchitza, Antitela, The Maneken and Kishe which echoed across the river and to the Swedish camp further up on the Truhaniv island. And the conclusion from visitors in for the football was:

Aristotellis Baroutsis from Sweden said: "As a tourist destination, Ukraine really exceeded my expectations – we had a fantastic time in Kiev and Odessa – and a very interesting trip to Chernobyl. Unfortunately, our team did not exceed our expectations… After being kicked out after two games, our recovery recipe was clear – to have a great final night at the What's On Famous Grouse Beach Party. And what an event it was – great atmosphere, fabulous music performances and a fantastic party crowd!"

Simon Brake, a British businessman over for the England-Sweden match with five English colleagues was equally enthusiastic: “I don’t understand why there was all the negative press in the UK. Kyiv is a brilliant city, the people are warm and friendly, we’ve seen no violence or any antisocial behaviour and now were being shown how Ukrainians party. This is a great city and one I will recommend to everybody”.

Publisher of What’s On Neil Campbell said: “We wanted to hold a party that people would be a bit different both for our readers and for the visiting fans. Hosting it on the beach really set the scene as it was very different form all the official celebrations. It was a party where the girls could show off, where all the guests could relax and let their hair down on what was a perfect summer’s evening.”
